Boskoop Nursery is located outside Pretoria at an altitude of 1300m in what is known as the Highveld region of South Africa. This Summer rainfall region is the high plateau of central Southern Africa, and the natural vegetation is mainly grasslands. Our soil is a very sandy loam.
So far as propagation goes, Boskoop Nursery propagates entirely from cuttings taken in mid-Summer. Under our conditions this produces a marketable plant in three years. We find that Camellias on their own roots produce much stronger plants.
Boskoop Nursery has been in existence for more than 40 years. In the beginning, Boskoop Nursery was the leading grower of Conifers in South Africa. Later, Boskoop Nursery expanded by starting to grow Camellias, Magnolias, Azaleas and Japanese Maples.
Together with the above mentioned plants, we are also growing orchids, mainly Cymbidiums for the potplant trade.
